I have Judged this outstanding male and example of the breed so many times during his show career and he never fails to impress me both in terms of his true breed type, presentation, ring presence, attitude and so wonderfully shown. For those who read this critique, with few alterations it is a carbon copy of my critique of this from Leeds Championship Show 2023 – my comments and opinions have not changed. A male of nearly 9 years of age who certainly does not look his age due to the supper fit condition that his owner has clearly kept him in together with fabulous presentation and handling.. Excellent overall breed type. The very best of heads with clean cheeks and well placed ears, dentition, correct, clean and complete. Strong, clean neck leading to correct layback and corresponding return of upper arm. Brisket of excellent depth and width. Ribs well sprung. Strong loin. Well bent moderate stifles on muscular hindquarters with evident second thigh. Quality bone all through with neat, tight feet with short nails. Moved accurately and soundly at all times.

Very impressive and so much a breed type male. I loved his outline and compact build and balance. Holds himself well on the stance covering the ground well. Stunning correctly built head with rounded skull, high set dropped triangular ears used well to advantage, dark almond shaped eyes with lovely expression, clean cheeks, correct dentition. Proud head carriage on moderate neck strongly muscled, clean throat with some furnishings. Firm level backline to his well set and carried feathered tail with nice tip. Good front with depth to chest, well sprung ribs well back into short loin. Presented in clean, conditioned flat rich red jacket with lovely feathering. Muscular hindquarters, well turned stifle and short hocks. Lovely balanced legs well boned and tight round padded feet. Moves out so well with good side stride and sound back and forth, carries tail up with good carriage.

Saturday 29th June 2019 Windsor (CC) - Mr Richard Morris (Lascoed)

3rd Open Dog

Four years eight months, he completed a trio of wonderful dogs of which the breed can be truly proud and which hopefully will encourage quality in depth to flourish in Tollers in the UK. Dark red colour coat lying well and pleasing texture in good bloom with white feet and tail tipped a distinct kennel type from the winners but his qualities complemented those above him in all respects, just would have liked a tad more strength in his muzzle if being personally particular and both the winners had slightly superior muscle tone finish in their hindquarters in my view being similarly constructed as brothers. A dog I have always admired and I am confident the breed will inherit so much of value from him as a sire three beautifully dogs who could all change places on another day.

21 months, loved his balance outline, most pleasing masculine head, excellent angles to fore & rearquarters, well made through the ribs, strong loin & topline, good tailset. Well turned stifle, with good low hocks, a really sound mover, made good use of his tail, 1 just had the edge on rear movement over 2.

Challenging class that was headed by this young man. Only 20 months & lacking a little bit of maturity here but his quality stood out. Classic head piece of correct shape & definition, lovely dark eye. Strong through the neck which led on to a super angulated front, shoulders well set & standing on good legs & neat feet. Good depth to the body, ribs well sprung & loin muscular. Level in topline. Quarters well made & muscled, stifles well bent. One of the best movers of the day, very impressive action in profile & fore & aft. Correct tail carriage on the move. Coat good with correct texture. I really liked this chap & he pushed the veteran winner hard for top honours. I think with a little maturity he could go far. RBD.

I liked his type, proportions and outline. He was fully clothed with dense undercoat and water resistant top coat. Good angulation fore and aft, good spring of ribs carried well back to a firm loin and crop. Level topline. Strong bone yet light on his feet and jaunty on the move. In great condition, fit, well muscled and shown to advantage CC and BOB.

So much has been said & written about this young man & after judging him I can see why. Stood out in this class. Excels in many areas. Lovely head & neck, well laid shoulders, deep chest with forechest, well ribbed back to a short loin, lovely rear angles, correct tailset & carried well. True on the move coming & going with correct jaunty gait. Had to work hard in the challenge against the open winner but just had the edge on the move. BD
