Many thanks to all the exhibitors for making my first judging appointment challenging; but being spoilt for choice does make it very enjoyable and it was pleasing that my BOB went on to top honours later in the day! Special thanks must go to my lovely steward who kept things under control and organised. Last but not least, thanks also to the show committee for giving me the opportunity to see the show ring from the other side.
Junior Dog or Bitch (4 entries, 2 absent)
1st | Strevens TOLLELKIN CAIFE GAELACH AT TOLLISTY 8 month-old bitch quite grown-up in manners but like her enthusiasm. Rear angulation in balance, with nice parallel columns in forehand and hindquarters, and in pleasing condition for age. Head a little narrow and would have preferred neater more triangular ears, but she uses them well to complement a kind eye and interested expression. Level topline maintained on the move, with balanced reach and drive, tail carried in sabre-curve, but tends to three-track rather than true single-track. RBOB & Best Puppy |
2nd | Cornes REDGINJAS MAUI 11 month-old dog, a very outgoing and loving lad. Another in good condition, with a parallel forehand showing good angulation. Well sprung ribs and strong chest developing. Head well proportioned, with happy expression and neat well set ears. Tail never still and well feathered. Less balanced on the move in profile than 1, also tending toward three-track, moving a little too close behind. |

Open Dog or Bitch (4 entries, 1 absent)
1st | Barker EUSANIT SILVR DREAM MACHINE A well sized dog showing off the breed type without exaggeration. Skull broad and well proportioned in length, with well set ears of correct size and shape accentuating an intense expression. Strong neck leading into a solid parallel forehand with correct angulation. Well ribbed chest, depth reaching to elbow and level topline maintained on the move. Angulation in rear balancing that of front, hindquarters well muscled to give good forward power. Straight on the move with correct tail carriage and good drive and reach. BOB |
2nd | Strevens SH CH ERIKACHEN CONAIRE AT TOLLISTY JW SHCM SHCEX Another well sized dog, with happy expression and a good head although slightly sharp in stop. Good angulation in the forehand balanced in the hindquarters. Not quite the depth of chest of 1st, but well sprung rib and solid topline. Strides out on the move but not similarly extended in the rear. Tends to three-track. Tough decision, but a slight imbalance in hindquarter musculature made the difference between first and second. |
3rd | Edwards AFONBACH SONG OF ICE AND FIRE Good sized bitch up against some stiff competition. Head typical of the breed, with a ready expression and well set ears of correct size and shape. Lovely head carriage on the move, combined with a level topline and sabre-curved merry tail. A fraction straight in front angulation with chest of good depth and good rear angulation. Moved well with balanced drive and reach. |
Stakes/Variety classes
AV Open Dog or Bitch (7 entries, 5 absent)
Judge: Mrs Claire Sharp (Affilato)
1st | Barker EUSANIT SILVR DREAM MACHINE NSDTR with a textbook front – shoulders well back and super return of upperarm. Level topline, good rear. He is so balanced. My notes says "moved very accurately" and I've underlined "very"!! He didn't put a foot wrong. In lovely condition. |
BIS
Judge: Mrs Claire Sharp (Affilato)
Barker EUSANIT SILVR DREAM MACHINE Already critiqued in the AV open class but I'll add, it would have been criminal not to give this boy BIS here today. He thoroughly deserved it. I heard afterwards that he’d got his title at Manchester Champ show? I'm really not surprised. A worthy champion. |
